What's My Line?

Last week, while putting together what will be the next post on the blog, I came upon a set of these on E Bay. On a whim, I bought them.  They were worth the smile on Madame Mere's face.

Can you guess what they are?

  1. I have a knowledge of fun and exotic cutlery but I've never seen anything like this -- I cry "uncle" and beg to be told!

  2. Hah! I too was thinking of posting a mystery item as part of my Arcane Dining Oddities series soon, so your post is a good reminder for me to get on with it.

You have me stumped with these. Elegant corn on the cob holders (not sure what their size is?). A device for holding some type of bone/meat from which to nibble upon?

Looking forward to your big reveal soon so please don't keep us in suspense for too long.

  3. Are they corn cob holders?

  4. On second thought, they are too fancy for that.

  5. I love these mystery objects, and have no idea what this is, so I am looking forward to the answer. The handles (as well as the central spike) seem too long for corn holders, and the side prongs seem meant to hold something secure, so this cannot be anything on the order of a nut pick or butter pick. I am assuming these are the size of an ordinary fork or knife, and not large serving pieces.

  6. Maybe for use with shell fish or lobster?

  7. Part of a carving set? But why two of them? Looks like they are silver so they belong at the table, not the kitchen.

  8. Perhaps they're used to pick and eat lobster or crab legs? Do tell please!

  10. I can not tell the size, but if they are long, they could be used the pick up a roast
