RIP Little Lucy

We said goodbye to our beloved little girl Lucy this past January, nine month after she was diagnosed with bladder cancer.  She died peacefully in my arms next to her sister whom she adored. She was a trooper until the end.

Those of you who have been following this blog for awhile know her best as the Sous Chef of Lindaraxa and author of The View From My Corner and The View From The Top of the Stairs; but she was much more than that.  She was the best companion anyone could ever hope for and, above all, she was a lot of fun. It was easy to write her posts for I could read her mind almost as well as she could read mine..

I am going to keep this short for I still can't write about her without getting myself all worked up. She had a lot of friends on Facebook and Twitter and they have been most supportive in helping me get through these highly emotional months  .  It is gratifying to know she touched so many lives and made so many friends.   She had a lot of fans here too and I thought you should know, but it hasn't been easy and I miss her a lot.  I will be back soon but, as you can well understand, it is tough to share of oneself when one is not in the right frame of mind.

I will leave you with two posts ( here and here) from My Kitchen By The Lake and you will understand why we Westie lovers like this breed so much.  It's called Westitude and Lucy had it in spades.

Sail on, little one...

  2. My heart goes out to you Lindaraxa. It is never easy saying good bye to our furry friends, but do remember all the good times you shared with Lucy and how loved she was, and what she gave back. The two links you provide obviously show the bond between you. How lucky you are to have those memories of her.

I wish you peace in this difficult time.

  3. My deepest sympathies to you. I lost my dear Henry to cancer in 2013 and I still think of him often. He was my best friend and truly loyal as only a dog can be.

  9. This seems to be a bad season for beloved pets. I just cried and cried at Downton Abbey this week with Isis dying. Then another 2 friends had their old dogs die. I am so sorry. The best thing I can say is remember, your dog had a life filled with love and care, so few creatures (animal or human) in the world can have that. You should feel warmed knowing you gave her the best life possible.

  10. My heart aches for you and am so sorry to hear about Lucy. I know how much you adored and loved her and thought something must be wrong since we haven't heard from you lately. I almost wrote to you, but hesitated, thinking I might interfere or cause you to be uncomfortable. My only children were four-legged ones and I feel your pain. I didn't leave the house for a week after our last collie died. Take good care of yourself and know we all have you in our thoughts and prayers.

  13. It was last year at this time that we lost George. I know from where you are coming. Lucy will be there in spirit, but I know that sometimes just doesn't cut it. Take care and try to let the wonderful memories be some comfort.

  14. As you know, I was always a fan of the Sous Chef. So sorry for your loss. It is been a rough winter for all of you girls. I know you will soldier on, but do know we grieve for this dear one. So much spunk and style. So many little tricks up her sleeve for dealing with her own difficult times.

  20. So sorry to hear such sad news, we know what you are going through. Our golden died last April. We miss him so much. We are about to get a new puppy, starting a new adventure. Westies are so adorable and spunky and I know you are missing her. She was a lucky girl to have a loving mama.

  22. It is incredibly hard to lose a dog. they are children in so many ways to us.....
I hope you get a new "Westie" soon! There is a rescue group!!! People die and their "Westies" need homes!

I am older; and have lost many dogs. All of them gifts So I try to weave together the memories of all of them; and see their gifts even more clearly!

I have three dogs now; and I hope I will always have dogs around me..actually.....life would not be worth living without them! (I adore my family.....daughters, etc. and 7 grandchildren who love me and dote on me)

however; they have their own lives to live; and the dogs......the dogs....the dogs. and then the cats!

May I always be surrounded by animals.

I forgot to say the chickens! And the wild ducks!
