Mother's Orchids

In spite of the fact my mother has been in bed for a couple of months after a bad fall, her orchids took no heed and bloomed just like they do every Spring!

She grows African violets too!

  1. beautiful orchids. I love it when they rebloom! My mother grew violets as well and every time I see them I think of her and my grandmother!

  3. WOW! I can't believe how beautiful they have gotten! I must have tied those to the trees about 4 years ago... and they come back better and better! Just to add... Orchids are air plants. they really do not need too much soil. if you live in places like south Florida or the deep south and the weather is mild and humid they will flourish simply tying them to trees out of direct sunlight. If it is a dryer than normal season, all you need to do is spray them daily with water. I also saw beautifully decorated yards on the pacific coast (San Francisco) where the afternoon fog rolls in like a light drizzel... they love that kind of environment!

  4. What vibrant pictures. When I lived in Ohio, I used to comb the woods every spring looking for wild orchids and other rare flowers. Thank you for reminding me of this annual ritual.

  6. Yes, she takes better care of them than anything else. It also helps to live in Florida where the humidity is a big plus.

Columnist, coming from you in Thailand that is indeed a compliment!
